A Toast to Venice

The History of Wine and an Exclusive Malvasia Tasting

The Experience

A flavorful experience into the discovery of the fascinating history of wine in Venice, its rituals, incredible journeys and meeting places.

Historically, Venice was deeply and intimately linked to Malvasia, the precious wine of the East, and played a key role in transforming it into a noble merchandise in the area of the Mediterranean.

Malvasia is a complex and broad name that identifies several varieties of vines and has culturally contributed to spreading the wine and gastronomic culture of our territory.

Venice gave birth to the first enogastronomic brand: Malvasia - a strategic and extraordinary operation, which made these precious wines from the East real status symbols, wines desired, loved, coveted and sought after by all the nobles and the most important European courts of the time

Today there are 19 vines registered in the Italian National Register of Vine Varieties belonging to the Malvasia group, some of which share common characteristics and aromas, while others originate from different biotypes or clones.

Knowing Malvasia means traveling through Italy and discovering the extraordinary culture of the Mediterranean; I will introduce you to the history and the flavor of very rare Italian Malvasia wines, all so authentic, intense and meaningful.

About me

My name is Laura and I live and work between Venice and San Candido in South Tyrol.

II am an AIS- and WSET-certified sommelier, and since 2022, I have pursued a personal research project as a wine and food stylist, focusing primarily on photography and storytelling related

to food and wine pairings. For the past three years, I have written about wine and food and organized events. I am particularly interested in the relationship between art, history, and literature in connection with the language of wine.

I love exploring wine through the diverse

landscapes of Italy, delving into the country’s rare native grape varieties, deeply rooted in its rich biodiversity and strong ampelographic tradition.

I am the curator and organizer of ENOLOGISMI - a series of events dedicated to exploring and understanding Italian food and wine culture—an intersection of disciplines and influences. Engaging with art, music, literature, photography, and design, and bringing together ideas, people, and seemingly unrelated strengths, “Enologismi” experiments with gatherings that present wine and food in new and unexpected ways. These events take place in one of Venice’s last untouched corners, away from mass tourism, in a former industrial dock in the San Pietro di Castello neighborhood, just steps from the renowned Venice Art Biennale.
